Looks like snow heading here again tomorrow, most of the last snowfall is gone, so we get new stuff to play in. Not good for my working in the sheds or yard to get stuff to storage. March right around the corner and moving day will get here pretty quick. Months have been sliding right past me. Off last week, but chemo again this thursday coming. Half a day gone there.
Well the "Zillion Dollar Hoard" has been mostly packed and put in storage til after the move, then we move it again and start digging in. Gonna be lottsa neat stuff added to the shops.

St. Patrick's Day and Easter postcards added to shop

Well the snow hit, looks like 5-6" and it's like 20* out. Working on adding some more assorted jewelry and a bunch of small collectibles to the shop that I bought yesterday. Guess I'll work the shops over the weekend and look at the snow out the window. Warmer tat way.

Got some more stuff into storage, starting to look empty around here. Starting to echo some. Still 40+ boxes of merch thats online, so it needs to stay till the move. Sometimes people actually buy this stuff. Just kidding, been pretty steady selling, no rhyme or reason for what they buy. A little paper, a few postcards some jewelry, graniteware, glass, china who knows what next.

Think it might be time to take the shop on Anteques.com down and blend it in with

Yesterday got some more stuff packed up in the sheds and loaded into the truck, will take them to storage tomorrow. Also made a pile of hand tools, yard tools, plus yard decorations, watering cans, buckets, wooden and iron wheels and other assotted stuff to go to my March 12th auction. Also an oak dining room table and 4 chairs, oak chifferobe and night stand plus some assorted cabinets are going. Now gotta work some piles in the yard and see what goes where. Looks like it's under control now. Packed up another showcase that was full of my candy containers, little nodders and other small collectibles for the move. Had some neat pieces in there I had forgotten about.
Did some measuring and looks like the furniture etc. that we're keeping is going to fit. All systems are go as I see it. Contracts signed, deposits made etc.

Still sortin' an packin', still to much stuff around here, maybe get more to storage tomorrow after the rain and snow. Trying to keep the stuff in the shops accessible while packing, can't move that stuff till the end of this whole thing. Hopefully the cable people tranfer everything over quickly so I won't be down for more than a day as far as answering emails and recieving orders. Still got a few days of work in the sheds. Plus other stuff in the yard under tarps etc. One sure can accumulate in this business. Found a few boxes of enamelware lids etc. plus milk crates of other assorted lids and parts. Should start a few pages of just lids and parts to sell. Also odd salt and pepper shakers, got a few boxes of them too.

Well there is a special "First Years of Saturday Night Live" on tonight (Sunday), gotta watch it.

Saturdeay Morning

Sort of a slow day around yesterday, did some more packing, worked the auction paper work, put a bunch of stuff on Overstock auctions (they got a deal going). Also took some photos of items to add to shop today. And went to the diner for late lunch and had breakfast for the third time yesterday. 2 bowls of cereal earlier and eggs and stuff at the diner.
Scanned some postcards and wrote some descriptions. All light weight stuff. To cold to work in the sheds, maybe today and also maybe get more stuff up to the storage bin. End of March is going to sneak right up on me, I know it. Got tons of odds and ends to do yet plus keep shops up to date and keep adding merch. Moving ain't no fun !!!

Got a couple of orders, nothing great but a sale is a sale. Tried to figure out what days are good order days but can't come up with an answer. One day they just keep coming and then poof where did everyone go. After 30+ years of this business, flea markets, shops, auctions I should know better than to try to figure it out, just hurts the brain.

Packed up more about 15 boxes in the sheds yesterday and took them to storage today. Packed up a few big storage tubs with bulky stuff that's in the online shops. Will keep them here in case some of it sells. Ya never know.

Well, starting to see day light here in the (hoard) house, 100+ boxes in storage, bunch more packed ready to go. Got rid of a load at the auction Saturday, so must be gaining on the pile. House deal looks like everything is a go on both ends. Selling and buying. Gonna be a little tight on space for a while until I figure out a storage plan, probably get a smaller storage unit down the line as a backup. Been lucking out on a few sales that made some space, postcards are nice to sell, but you don't make much space :-). Got a bunch of old wagon wheels, cultivators and a plow going into a few farm auctions next month. They're loaded on a friends trailer so they are outta here. Now trying to organize the stuff that's online so I can find it but have it packed for the move at the same time. May have to put the shops in a semi vacation mode for a few days when we move. That's not until end of March, figure it out then. Once I get settled in the new place gonna be like Christmas digging through boxes and will be adding to the shops like a madman. Can't sell it if no one knows you have it.
Off to chemo treatment in the morning, gives me time to think up more stuff to do and probably get some more ideas I don't need. Thinking has a habit of getting me into trouble and making more work to do. Problem is my mind never stops moving.

While rooting around packing more stuff for the move I opened a box and discovered about 1000 old matchcovers, ah, more stuff to sort. Think I got hoarditist or some such sickness. Found this today "Hoarding. The acquisition without the possibility of parole, minus the thought of auctioning or sale, devoid of the contemplation of disposal (horrors!). Such socially inappropriate behavior can be described as either eccentricity or mental disease, depending on the socio-economic status of the person in question. Hoarding can be described as a sickness or a harmless and entertaining obsession. One thing for sure, this behavior is, ultimately, expensive". Yeah thats what I got.

Sterling, printers plates added to shop

Hi,
Long day Saturday at my auction, got there about 7am to setup and accept consighments, was steady flow until auction started at 5am, sold our normal 500+ lots. Got finished about 10:30, cleared out the hall and got home about midnight. Didn't get a lot done today, sorta took it easy and let my bones settle back in. Seemed like in was a decent sale, as usual they paid more for things that I don't understand and bought items for cheap that you would think would do better. Never try to figure the auction business out, will make you crazy.

Good evening all,

Started the day going into the hospital for chemo treatment at 7am, but they sent me home because of low platlets count. Worked on adding stuff to the shops instead. Scanned stuff etc.

While digging through a few boxes that I was packing for the move, I came upon a load of dollhouse miniatures etc.. Always wanted to open an old general store type shop or museum set up, something I'll never get to now I don't think, but picked up a miniature one (general store) about 10 years ago, like a foot and a half square with lots of stuff that goes in it. Might dig that out and work on it after the move. Another project. It will be sorta like having what I wanted just smaller. It has counters etc in it and I have lots of miniatures to fill the shelfs etc. Yeah, sounds like a plan.

Slowly getting down to just the 2500+ items that are in the shops. They gotta stay till the end or I'll never find them when they sell. Also keeping a few boxes of little stuff to keep adding to the shops on hand. Probably have enough little stuff on my desk to list for a few days. When I had my shop I had an old dropleaf table in the center with chairs around it and always had a pile (heap would better describbe it) of small goodies in the center, my regular customers would stop in for coffee and sit around the table an pick at the pile, best selling spot in the shop.

Also have one showcase of my some of my little collections, miniature nodders, candy containers etc. that I need to pack up. Still have start emptying cabinets etc. And then finish emptying the sheds etc. May be gaining ground here. But after the move I have reopen all these boxes and start sorting and listing again. Gonna be like Christmas.
Never realized how many reference books etc. that I had. Some I don't even remember having. It may be possible that I'll get a little organized after this move. Ya think?

Opened a few boxes to peek and wondered why I own them, but digging in a little there is some good stuff in them, look like they were from the garages behind the old shop, mixture of tools, parts etc. and merchandise. Guess I was topping off the boxes with whatever to fill them and empty the garages. May be listing a bunch of tools or maybe just brings them to the flea markets in the spring. Few boxes of graniteware lids, glass and china lids, good for my "The Other Half " shop pages I may open someday. Also glass shades, chimneys etc. for lamps. Early morning tomorrow, 7 am at the hospital for chemo. most a a day gone. Gotta, load up the truck Friday for Saturdays auction.

Packed up a bunch of stuff in one shed, will take some to storage tomorrow. Filled a large postcard order to day. Went to the dinner for late lunch / dinner.

Todays ramblings:

I've been finding boxes that I haven't looked in for years and actually discovering some neat stuff. Actually many small collections that I started but never really got into. The only things that I actually collect and some are also what I sell are
vintage kitchenware,graniteware, advertising tins, and penquins. Use to collect Mickey Mouse stuff but stopped a few years ago when I realized I had over 50 banana boxes full and no where to display them so I weeded them out and now only have about 100 or so small Mickey items. Started to collect small nodders, candy containers and 1950's hard plastic stuff. But they were getting very hard to find and prices were getting out of hand. Also have small collection of ramp walkers and white knob wind-ups. And many little collections of 4-5 of this and 1/2 dozen of that. Have probably 200 pounds of paper items to go through some day. While I was down with the cancer and in the hospital a few times I had nightmares of all my stuff in an auction being sold by the tray or box lot. (Horrors!) So decided to break in to the Zillion Item Retirement Hoard sooner than I wanted. It's amazing what one can accumulate. Oh yeah, and then there are the postcards a few thousand of them. It seems that any thing that was hollow got stuffed with goodies. Oh and the miniatures, dollhouse type stuff, lots of that. Did I mention the restaurant china? That was mainly bought to sell, but I was buying it faster than selling it so the pile grew. Actually that how a lot of stuff multiplied, buy five sell two. Okay gotta go add some more to the shop. Stay tuned from the next episode.

More ramblings,

Looks like we may have the house sold. Which is good because most of it is packed up and in storage. Got a large floor to ceiling (almost) sliding glass door showcase and vintage kitchen stove that was part of our kitchenware display out of here today, plus smaller showcase,big old plow that was yard decoration, few wagon wheels etc. All heading for my auction on the 12th (next Saturday). Got a few more boxes of reference books packed also. Sorta tried today, had to be at hospital at 7am for shots to counteract whatever to chemo treatments mess up. Back tomorrow morning same time for shots again. Then Thursday morning for Chemo again. Three days a week running back and forth to hospital for over a year now.
Got some photos today of stuff to add to shops either later or tomorrow. Also some ebay stuff.
Think it's going to be an early night tonight.

Sterling, Souverirs, jewelry added to shop

Good evening all,

Well, I got a small load of boxes into storage this morning. Got some stuff added to the shop and a few items photographed. Plus got a few things organized.

Had 6 couples come look at the house today, at least 2 seem pretty interested. The cats are not to happy about these goings on. Messes up their nap cycles.

Also gotta get some more items ready for my auction on the 12th.

As we are packing up for this house selling and buying episode I have come to the conclusion that I've hoarded too much stuff. Have packed about a hundred boxes so far of collectibles that have been stashed for a rainy day. After years of selling at flea markets and buying at markets, yard sales and auctions, I always
had to pull out a few items for down the line. Problem was in 1989 the building that my shop was in at a flea market here in N.J. burnt down and just about everything was gone. Well, now it was time to start over, so to catch up I started to skim more stuff from each load I bought and smaller items that I could stick in cigar boxes and such. Other than the graniteware and some country and primitive pieces that I collect nothing was bigger than a shoebox. A few years back my ex-partner and I closed a shop that we had and it took many van loads to move my part here to the house. And I continued to add to the pile. When we decided it was time to downsize after a year or so of treatments for throat cancer and realizing that at 60 the 30 or 40 years of ideas yet to be done was going to be a problem. So I talked myself into dismantling this "Zillion Item Hoard" that I created. Not an easy thing to do when one is a packrat. Not that I've stopped buying just being more selective. Been adding more to my online shops which slowly cuts down the pile, adding more stuff that I don't really know why I own into my monthly auctions and even tossing (shudder) some stuff. (to be continued).

Some ramblings by Country Joe

Was thinking the other day that I should write some articles for the blog but realized that writing isn't one of my strong points. so maybe I'll just ramble
about whatever is on my mind or day to day stuff.

Thursday night while not being able to sleep which normally happens the night after chemo treatment, I was thinking about how many different collections I had
because they all aren't going to fit in the new place. Less rooms and different layout. Well I decided that I have to many collections going on and guess a few
need to go. Ah, but which ones do I want to let go of. Also realized that I'm a compulsive buyer and hoarder.

Anybody else have this problem?

Got a little warmer today so went out and started to dig through the sheds a bit, need to clear them out before we move. Luckily a lot of the stuff can go directly to the auction nonstop. Lots of boxes of flea market stuff etc. time to let someone else own this fine merchandise. Also a lot can just go to storage for future sorting, tools, parts etc. now if there wasn't a foot of snow and a hundred foot between the sheds and the truck I could have gotten a load into the storage unit. Guess the snow will go away soon, I hope. Still packing boxes in the house that can go to storage. Also some can go to auction next week.
Guess it's time to scan and write up some items to add to the shops.

Got some more people coming to look at the house later, so gonna pack some more plastic totes to hide more stuff. Got one truck load of stuff to the dump today, cleared out some old wood and other debris that built up around here.
